“Also, I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26, MEV). God is a GOOD God. He is all about forward motion. Moving deeper into Himself. He loves us enough NOT to leave us the way He found us, as it were. We are meant to cooperate with the Lord. Not to give Him a laundry list of things we want or want to see happen, but to align ourselves with Him (Proverbs 3:5-6). When we align ourselves with the Word, we truly get transformed (Romans 12:1-2). It doesn’t happen all at once. It happens gradually as we take step after step closer to the Lord. Things that didn’t bother us years ago, suddenly we have no stomach for. We get sensitive to language, situations, and depictions of morality. It can start big and it can start small. But we transform one step at a time if we will keep our hands in His. While we’re focused on the big things in our lives, our big situations and our personal struggles, we’re transforming. We don’t do this consciously. This is a transformation fuelled entirely by our proximity to the Lord. We seek Him, we get closer to Him, and we find that Jesus in us has moved our needles. We register things VERY differently the closer we are to Him. The more we love Him, the more we seek HIS language, HIS values, and take joy in what HE says is good. We don’t do it as part of an agenda. We don’t do it to prove anything. We simply enjoy His presence and take comfort that He is inviting us in. The benefits of a deeper relationship FAR outweigh whatever is no longer for us. He loves us enough to help us become more like Him so that we can live closer beside Him.
