Nested in Him: 2 Samuel 22; Psalm 144; and 1 Corinthians 2

(All scripture from the World English Bible, ebible.org, all rights reserved)

In my distress I called on the Lord,
    and cried out to my God;
from His temple He heard my voice.
    My cry reached His ears.
..

He brought me to the open expanse;
    He rescued me, for He delighted in me.
The Lord did for me according to my righteousness;
    according to the cleanness of my hands He recompensed me.”

(2 Samuel 22:7, 20-21)

“Then our sons will be like well-nurtured plants,
    our daughters like pillars carved to adorn a palace.
Our barns are full, filled with all kinds of provision.
    Our sheep produce thousands and ten thousands in our fields.
Our oxen will pull heavy loads.
    There is no breaking in, and no going away,
    and no outcry in our streets.
Happy are the people who are in such a situation.
    Happy are the people whose God is Yahweh.

(Psalm 144:12-15)

“But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For who among men knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God except God’s Spirit. But we received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might know the things that were freely given to us by God. We also speak these things, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. Now the natural man doesn’t receive the things of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to him; and he can’t know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is to be judged by no one. “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he should instruct him?” But we have Christ’s mind.
(1 Corinthians 2:10-16)

The Lord is a firm foundation and a solid rock. He is a fortress. He is protection. He is all these things, but we can only take advantage of them when we are aligned with Him. When we are making sure that we are standing beside Him, hand in hand. It’s like He is throwing Blessing at us and we can either catch it or dodge. David understood that in order to catch it, you have to be aligned with God. Every time you move from that place beside God, you’re dodging. Whether David was asking for physical protection, emotional protection, national protection, a way of escape, relief from pressure, or anything at all, he knew that first he had to get his eyes on the Lord and align with what the Lord was saying (which is the essence of repentance). He knew this because it had been demonstrated to him time and again. David knew, David believed, and David refused to move from that.

When we are aligned with the Lord, BLESSING flows. We are in the BEST PLACE possible. Regardless of our circumstances, we can have BLESSING and PEACE and VICTORY. It doesn’t matter how anyone else is seeing it, we will KNOW what is really going on because we will be EXPERIENCING it. When our situation is relying on God as our Source, our rock, and our foundation, there is NOTHING that is impossible and NOTHING that is held back. We will be seeking the GOOD things of God and all the GOODNESS that He provides. It will arrive in many different ways, but the most important way it arrives is in our interior lives. In our hearts and minds. Those who are aligned with the Lord are BLESSED and can live in that BLESSING.

We – the Church (Jew and Gentile) – have an advantage that David did not have. We have Holy Spirit. His temple is US – you and me. He dwells within us. He is connected to us directly. We can draw on Him and His Spirit every day of our lives – if we consciously choose to align ourselves with Him and His moral character. We are being given new hearts by the Lord. We are being taught, guided, corrected, and comforted by Holy Spirit. The Father is giving us life and health because we are His temple. And best of all, the mind of Messiah Himself is accessible to us through Himself. We are the growths that live off the vine and produce again and again and again a good crop of His Fruit.

Summary

The reality of the life of a disciple of Jesus is that we have access to what He is thinking. That access is based on whether or not we are submitting to Him. He isn’t going to share intimate things with someone who is rebelling, bucking the Way, and refusing to cooperate. The Lord shares intimate things with those who are desiring Him and seeking His moral character and commands. Those who are humbly submitting and worshipping the Lord for who He is. Those who run their lives by the Word. Who look to God as their Source. Who refuse to move off the place right beside God. They are the ones who are enjoying abundant life – spiritually rich and needs met so great that they are able to bless everyone they interact with. God’s Way IS THE Way. No question. Align with Him, submit to His will, and the blessings of knowing God’s mind will grow in our spirit and arrive in our lives at harvest time.
