“God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”” (Genesis 1:28, MEV). God loved us enough to share His fruit. Being fruitful has less to do with reproduction than you might think. I mean, it does mean that as human beings we were commanded to procreate and spread across the globe. That’s true. But it wasn’t the PRIMARY function necessarily. Adam was placed in the Garden to work it. To spread it. To make it fruitful and to progress beyond its borders until the entire Earth was the Garden. To multiply it. So our work is something that we should multiply. Our resources are something that we should multiply. Our harvest is something that we should multiply. Our seeds are something that we should multiply. We shouldn’t be sticking just with children (who we then need to train, educate, and ensure their fruitfulness), but we should be multiplying in ALL areas. How do we do that? By working with Jesus through cooperation with Him and aligning ourselves with His moral character (Romans 12:2). Jesus gives us seed to plant (2 Corinthians 9:10). Jesus gives us access to His Spirit who is rich with Fruit that we can take and plant in our own hearts (Galatians 5:22-23). We’re given guidance and correction, instruction and comfort. We’re enabled to do our work because He equips us, BLESSES us, and provides everything that we need in order to do the job He’s given us. We are meant to be multipliers in every sense of the word in every area of our lives, spirit, soul, and body (3 John 2). We should have a positive effect on the world around us. On the people that we come into contact with. Everyone should be a little bit better because we had the opportunity to meet and greet them. Not because we’re so special, but because of He who lives in us and shines from us. The Jesus in us is who impacts lives. The Jesus in us helping us grow His Fruit so that we are transformed by Him, through Him, and because of Him. So we can model Jesus to the world. So that they can see how much Jesus loves you and Jesus loves me and Jesus loves THEM. We’re not defeated and trodden. We are overcomers because we are in Jesus and He is THE overcomer. They can be too. Our fruitfulness is the evidence that Jesus is doing something in us and with us and through us. We multiply because God is a multiplying God who LOVES those He has created. He’s eager to BLESS those who put their hands in His and let Him be who He is. In them, for them, and through them.
