“I no longer call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I have heard from My Father have I made known to you” (John 15:15, MEV). Jesus loves us enough to be our friend. What ARE our friends? Well, the close ones are the people we trust deeply, share our innermost thoughts with, and who we rely on for emotional support. A friend is a person with whom we share a bond of mutual affection, trust, and loyalty. They are someone we enjoy spending time with, who supports us during difficult times, and with whom we can be ourselves. They are the people who SEE us. That’s why our spouses are meant to be our BEST friend. Humans were made to make these connections. To be friends with other people. To have and male connections. To build each other up and assist each other in our lives together (Ecclesiastes 4:12). Jesus is the ULTIMATE friend. He is the one who knows us through and through. No secrets. No NEED for secrets. He sees our hearts and still loves us. He is our help, our fortress, our strong tower in time of need. He protects and looks out for us. He is our mediator. The Way that we get to the Father and engage in a meaningful relationship with Him. Jesus and His love for us is the mechanism by which we receive everything and accomplish everything in our lives. He is the truth that we can stand on. The One we can rely on. The One that will NEVER abandon us and NEVER leave us and ALWAYS listen to us. Jesus is the One who ALWAYS has something to say to us. To guide us, teach us, correct us, and help us be the best us that there is to be. Jesus is the reason we have salvation open to us. Jesus loves us. We love because He loves us. THAT is a friend. THAT is who Jesus is.
