“…teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen” (Matthew 29:20, MEV). Jesus loves us enough to stay with us. The completion of an age. A joint action or payment. An end. The consummation of a dispensation – which according to Merriam-Webster is a system of revealed commands and promises regulating human affairs. Jesus is promising to be with us until the current system ends. That ‘system’ is the entire way we are existing at present. Sin, the Law, Grace, the covenants with God, etc. Having all of the fallen nature of creation end and an entirely new system coming into being will be a chaotic (from our point of view – 2 Peter 3) process. There will be a LOT of growing pains (Matthew 24:8). Jesus has promised to be with us through it all. Which means we can rely on Him through it all. Where to stay. What to do. How to ride it out. Jesus can help us with ALL of that. He can keep us secure when all around us seems to be collapsing. And I don’t just mean the doctrine of the rapture, the removal of believers before the end. I’m saying that regardless of whether the Church is taken up (Jew and Gentile) or stays or something we totally missed happens, Jesus is FAITHFUL and TRUSTWORTHY and will REMAIN WITH US. That is Jesus’ promise. That is the mark of Jesus’ love for us. He will stay right here beside us, Holy Spirit indwelling us, right up to the very end of all things we know and the beginning of all things we don’t. Jesus is our companion. Our bridegroom. He is NOT going to leave us at the altar. Jesus is the WAY. If we choose to rely on Him, trust in Him, and believe what He says? We will be hand in hand with the Name Above All Names when everything comes to pass. What safer place is there than that? What more reliable stance? Jesus IS trustworthy and if we keep our focus and our eyes on Him, we WILL be fine. He promised to be there, and here He WILL be. Trust in Him.
