Fear No Fear

“I no longer call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I have heard from My Father have I made known to you” (John 15:15, MEV). Jesus loves us enough to be our friend. Jesus IS our friend. The best possible friend. He started the relationship by laying down His life for us – the ultimate act of friendship (John 15:13). Jesus being the sacrifice that paid the price for Sin is what MAKES Him our friend. And He did it spiritually before anything was even created (Revelation 13:8). Jesus WANTS to be our friend. Our confidant. The one we turn to when we have something to share, or need to tell. The first stop we have. He can comfort us, hang out with us, fellowship with us, and support us. It can be a casual relationship, but not a flippant one. We never forget who He is, but we don’t have to use formal language and a ceremony in order to connect. We can talk to Him. We can listen to Him. We can love each other. Having a friend can be a life-changing thing. Some people have many friends. Others only really ever have one. For some it’s platonic. For others it’s their spouse and partner. There is a closeness in the relationship. There is intimacy. Shared ideas. Shared plans. Shared itinerary. No keeping of secrets. No holding back. Jesus is God and it is right that we keep Him in the place He deserves, but He is Love and wants closeness within that place. He is above all things, but we can approach Him. He is God, but He walks WITH us. Jesus loves us and wants to be our friend. If we love Him, we will honour who He is and also His relationship to us. We will run to Him every time.
