Fear No Fear

“Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.”” (John 8:12, MEV). Jesus loves us enough to show us things that are possible for us in Him. Darkness doesn’t have to exist. We don’t need it. All darkness is, is the absence of light. If light is there, there isn’t darkness. The smallest bit of light pushes back that thick darkness. Darkness has no defense against it. Darkness is not a physical object. It is simply what happens when no light waves reach an area. Light is in NO WAY dependent on darkness. We don’t need it. What we want is light. Light shows us what is around us. It shows us what is there and what it looks like. This is and always has been Jesus’ role: He shows us what is possible with God (Matthew 19:26). It isn’t about what WE think God can do. It is about being shown by God what God says He can do. We get what we pray for WHEN we pray according to His Word (1 John 5:14-15; John 15:7). Since Jesus is the Word and the Word is Jesus (John 1:1-5), we need to know what the Word says is possible, is for us, and is the will of God (Psalm 119:18). It isn’t about cracking open some ‘I’m gonna get it’ code. It’s about finding out the will and moral character of God and then aligning ourselves with it. Because one of our purposes is to give glory to God. God does things that show His glory. When we are resting in Jesus and relying on Him, we can do anything He did (John 14:12-14) BUT Jesus ONLY did what the Father showed Him (John 5:19). Jesus only did things that the Father told Him to do. We CAN do whatever Jesus did BUT only if the Father shows us. For example, I could walk on water because Jesus did, but in what circumstance would that bring God glory? Almost never, right? Which means that is not something I’m going to pray for or try to do. But when Jesus tells us healing is for today, or that we can be blessed so that we can bless others, or if He can perform a sign or miracle, or if He can solve a problem, free us from bondage, heal our heart, or fix a broken relationship; we need to acknowledge that HE CAN DO IT! He shines His light on what God says is possible because He wants us to walk in the full will of the Father. If we know what’s possible by studying His Word, which is His Will, then we’ll recognize it when the Father shows us something He wants to do through or around or for us. We need to KNOW before we can RECEIVE. How we know is by seeing His Light on it, and learning what HE says is possible. Jesus loves us too much to want us to remain ignorant.
