Fear No Fear

“Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth which leads to godliness, in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before the world began,” (Titus 1:1-2, MEV). God loved us enough to be consistent and constant. Jesus made it clear that it was all about what we believe: “Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in Me” (John 14:1, MEV). Without belief, we’re going to get nowhere. And belief comes from a few things. We get it from a pattern of observed or experienced patterns. We get it because a trusted source provided us information. We get it from values passed down from family or community (essentially another trusted source). God loved us enough to provide all those things from us. Throughout scripture we see the pattern of His moral character. Throughout scripture we see His statements proven again and again and again. Scripture shows us the inside and outside of a culture built around the idea of a relationship between God and humanity – and one that humanity doesn’t deserve or warrant based on logic alone. Paul puts it well. Our trust in God is based on our knowledge of His love for us which in turn is based on the truth that God cannot lie. This is what it means to have belief in God. His pattern of behaviour toward humanity, His consistent love for humanity, His truthful revelation to humanity, and His constant consistency dealing with humanity. Based on all of that, we can believe God. We can believe what Jesus tells us. We may not understand it. We are not owed an explanation for it. But we can believe it. We can believe it is true because He said it. He does not lie. He is consistent. He is constant. We KNOW He loves us. Believe Jesus. Believe God. What they say is TRUTH.
