Fear No Fear

“Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with them who love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations,” (Deuteronomy 7:9, MEV). God loves us enough to be faithful to His Covenant with us. And thank Him for that! We get what the covenant says we get, NOT what we deserve. It’s easy to focus on God’s love. We like the idea of love. It gives us squishy joy-joy feelings. But the truth is that while, yes, God’s love is perfect and loving; God’s love is also righteous because HE is righteous. He can love someone and still see them choose a judgment He did not wish upon them – parents do it every day when they discipline their children. When we enter into God’s covenant, we have been given the tool we need to make sure our repentance is real. We have the Word which shows us the will and moral character of God. It is a path we can follow. It lays out God’s point of view on every issue. We can use that to get ourselves into alignment with Him, accepting any and all corrections He may send our way because of our wandering. He is there to lead us to acknowledge, accept, and agree with His point of view – and turn from our own ways so that we trust in Him. He BLESSES us. Guides us, instructs us, cares for us, provides for us. All of that because of a covenant relationship with Him – NOT our performance. When we get it right, awesome. When we miss it, we can repent and change our behaviour, words, and thoughts to align with His. He is there with us through the consequences of our choices. He is our protection and Source. This relationship of loving worship to a loving God who lovingly shepherds us is a beautiful thing. It is wonderful to know how FAITHFUL God is in covenant. It is wonderful to know that as we lean into Him, He isn’t running away. He isn’t going anywhere. He is a BLESSING and a HOPE and MORE THAN ENOUGH to meet every need we could ever have. What a GREAT God we serve!
