“Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You” (Psalm 73:25, MEV). The love God has for us is the only thing of true value that exists. We need to VALUE God. When we value something, it has worth to us. It is something we are willing to work to acquire and protect to keep. We don’t treat it badly. We care for it. We tell others to care for it. We don’t forget about it. The things we do and don’t do are rated against our treasuring of that thing. We don’t do things that put it in jeopardy. Ever. That’s how we know we truly value it. We protect it with our thoughts, our words, and our actions. Take our spouses. If we truly value them, we will never put ourselves in a position to be able to cheat. We don’t have to spend alone time with the opposite sex. We don’t have to let ourselves be put into situations that if the right conditions came up something might ‘happen’. We could instead push ourselves to make sure we never compromise. That we never put ourselves somewhere where something might happen. We will protect that which we value by placing them first. That is what valuing something is all about. That’s why millions of parents around the world sacrifice to give their children better lives. That’s why students work so hard to get their degrees and fight to get jobs in their fields. That’s why we do a LOT of what we do. We need to value God even more than that (Luke 14:26). What we value as humans in our relationships isn’t bad. Our goals and values about our lives aren’t bad. But our valuing of God should be more. God is the MOST important relationship in our lives. We need to be putting Him FIRST and FOREMOST above EVERYTHING. Spending time. Reading the Word. Praying. Listening. Praising. Thanking. It is IMPORTANT. If we value Him like we should, then He should place first in our lives. Every single day. He loves us enough to spend time one on one with us. Shouldn’t we value that? Shouldn’t we demonstrate the value we put on that? Indeed, we should.
