“Do not be like them, for your Father knows what things you have need of before you ask Him” (Matthew 6:8, MEV). God loves us enough to get to know our hearts. God knows what we want. BEFORE we want it. This is truth. And since this is truth, it makes you wonder WHY we pray in the first place. I mean, God knows what we need. And we know that He provides us what we need (Philippians 4:19; Matthew 6:31-32). Why pray then? We pray because we’re not supposed to waste our time telling God what we NEED. He KNOWS what we need. Prayer is about so much more than that. It’s about finding out from Him what’s going on. It’s about discussing what we feel and our thoughts. It’s about thanksgiving and worship. It’s about listening. Prayer is a conversation, not a want list. Is it wrong to tell Him about what you want? Of course not. But why waste time telling Him about your needs? Tell Him what you want and then talk to Him about it. There might be a great reason to want it. There might be a good reason to not get it. There might be something even better that He has for you. Our lives aren’t about possessions. They aren’t about pleasures. That isn’t our focus. If we are aligned with God we will have things and we will get to enjoy things fully. God is about ABUNDANT life. But they won’t be our focus. God loves us enough to talk to us about all the things going on in our lives. All our desires and dreams and thoughts and struggles and emotions and feelings and our work and our hobbies and our everything. There is NOTHING too small not to bring to God. There is nothing to big not to bring to God. It’s a conversation. It’s a communication. It’s a hand-in-hand journey all because He loves us. Don’t waste time about needs. Trust that He has you covered because He said so. Open the door to so much MORE with Him. Open the door to real communication.
