“When He came near, He beheld the city and wept over it,” (Luke 19:41, MEV). God loves us so much He weeps over what is coming. When disaster strikes, it happens in a moment. At a given region in the world everything is fine, and then flood waters burst in and wipe away a town. An earthquake hits and a city gets levelled. Forest fires consume a region. Tornadoes or hurricanes bring devastation. It doesn’t take long. It can come out of nowhere. And we are helpless in the face of it. People die. They get injured. And when they do, God is WEEPING. This is not what God wants. This is not the result He wills. This is NOT the plan. It never was. It is a result of Sin. Sin entered the world and it fell. Creation became corrupted. Natural disasters happen. They aren’t God’s will. If God needs to judge, He will. But He doesn’t WANT to. He must. He is a just God. And He is merciful so He gives us chance after chance after chance after chance. He holds things back and delays and calls to us and preaches repentance and He does it as long as He possibly can. God LOVES us. He does not WANT to kill ANY of us EVER (2 Peter 3:9). That is not His will. But it IS reality. People are going to be swept away. How is YOUR heart? How is YOUR walk with Him? Have you been listening to His voice? Dealing with whatever it is He wants you to deal with? Are you taking the opportunity to get closer to Him? To thank Him for what He’s done? To worship Him regularly? Are you conversing with Him, or just asking for things? Are you talking, or complaining? What are things like with Him? Because we never know when things are going to happen. Even Jesus doesn’t know (Matthew 24:36). Sometimes we get warnings. The Father tells Jesus and He tells us through Holy Spirit. But not every time. Jesus warned us to be ready. To be watchful. To not let our relationship slack off. To keep looking to the Father. To keep connected to Him. To stay where He puts us: hand in hand with Himself. Don’t neglect your relationship with God. Don’t put it off. Take the time. God wants to have a relationship with you. Don’t put it off. Take advantage of it. Talk with Him. Fellowship with Him. Worship Him. Obey Him. It’s the most important thing you can do. And we need to do it EVERY DAY.
