Fear No Fear

“But, beloved, do not be ignorant of this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (2 Peter 3:8, MEV). God loves us enough to warn us that He is different. We are creatures of time. We’re very concerned about it. We mark the hours, seconds, days, months, minutes, and years. We plaster the time all over our cities. We put the ability to track time on almost all our devices. We are constantly looking at it, referring to it, and organising our lives around it. We are VERY time-centric. But God has a different relationship than we do to time. He is OUTSIDE of time, not caught up in its currents. God fathered eternity (Isaiah 9:6) just so that we could have a concept of how FOREVER He is. He isn’t bound by it. He doesn’t operate by it. He is aware of it. He knows how WE see it. And so He warns us. He doesn’t want us taken unprepared. Peter didn’t give us an exact ratio, but an example of how different God is. But if it WAS exact, Jesus has been ‘gone’ for a weekend. Not even a full one. Yet we have centuries and eons of human history. The globe has changed several times during that period. We have advanced, changed, adapted, and altered our world views too many times to count. Time is not the same. So when Jesus said He was coming SOON, from His point of view it hasn’t been that long. When God tells us something is imminent, it might happen that day, next day, or next decade. It is VERY important that we don’t mix our belief with TIME. It doesn’t matter what happens on our clock. It doesn’t matter what passes or what doesn’t. What matters is that God is trustworthy and dependable. If something is going to happen, then it WILL happen. We know that. We can trust that. We prepare, we stay prepared, and whenever our clocks catch up to His appointed times, the things will happen. God warns us so that we don’t see time pass and think it isn’t happening. Or that we aren’t going to get what He’s promised. That everything will keep going the way it always has. No. Things will happen on His schedule. Guranteed. Keep vigilant. Keep ready. Go on about life from that point of readiness. And whenever it happens, today, tomorrow, next decade, you’ll be ready. You will be surprised, but not unprepared. Don’t mix your trust in God with time. Keep believeing. Be prepared. Rest in Him. Don’t watch the clock.
