“I establish My covenant with you. Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood. Never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth” (Genesis 9:11, MEV). God loves us enough to keep His covenants. Love isn’t worth much if it isn’t faithful. If it isn’t true. If it can’t be depended on. God is love. God keeps His Word. God fulfills His promises. God keeps His covenants. Even though He is God and doesn’t HAVE to do anything, He chooses to limit Himself by His Word. When John was taken into heaven by an angel and shown a vision of what was to be, he saw the Throne of God. Around that Throne was a rainbow (Revelation 4:3). A reminder of God’s covenant with Noah. A reminder that He was choosing to be bound by His Word. That is TREMENDOUS. God chooses to be so faithful and true and just, that we can take His Word AS His Word. Now when we look throughout scripture we can see promises to us. Promises of protection. Of salvation. Of deliverance. Of renewal. God lays them out very clearly and very carefully. He doesn’t hide them. If we will do what He says, we will get the benefit of doing what He says. He is clear. He warns us when we start to stray. There is no time anywhere where a negative consequence came without warnings being given. Sometimes multiple warnings over long periods of time. God is faithful. God is merciful. God wants obedience. God wants a relationship with us. God wants good things for us. We can depend on that. We can depend on Him. He hasn’t lied to us. He is keeping His Word and will continue to keep His Word. It isn’t EVER going to fail. EVER. Take Him at His Word. Believe what He says. Trust Him. Listen to Him. And obey Him. It’s always the best thing to do.
