Fear No Fear

“And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. And it did not fall, for it was founded a rock” (Matthew 7:25, MEV). God loves us enough to connect with us before the disaster. Once the wind and rain showed up, it was too late to build the foundation. It was too late to raise the house. It was too late to prepare. It isn’t that God can’t save you from the storm, it’s that you won’t be riding the storm out in the way that He wanted you to. In a secure and dry way. Without that foundation and the building on the foundation you will totally be at the mercy of the storm. In constant danger from wind and water. Hanging on, but being pummelled at the same time. Not pleasant. But if you had prepared, you’d be safe. Warm. Dry. In the storm, but not at the mercy of the storm. You’d be like Jesus in the boat: sleeping because you know that you’re safe. You’d be above the problem, with God’s perspective. Preparation time is NEVER wasted time. The truth is that if we aren’t seeking God when things are fine, we are never ready to seek Him when there’s trouble. We aren’t used to it. We panic. We beg. That isn’t interaction. That isn’t a relationship. That isn’t proper. Throughout the psalms we see David crying out to God. He isn’t panicking. His cry is more effective because He KNOWS God. Because he has seen the consistency of God. Because he spoke to God and praised God and relied on God when nothing was wrong. That is what gave him the strength and wisdom to know WHAT to cry out, HOW to cry out, and to STAND on what he already had established with God. We need a relationship with the Lord now. Not when the economy crashes. Not when disaster strikes. Not when we are trapped or under siege. Now. When it is calm. When it is quiet. When we have the chance to know who God IS, not just to ask about what He can DO. Waiting is a fool’s game. Connecting with Him now is right and good. Do it today. Start now. Say hello and LISTEN.
