2026 Daily Affirmation #281

“Whoever has been born of God does not practice sin, for His seed remains in him. And he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God” (1 John 3:9, MEV). God loves us enough to insulate us from Sin and our iniquities. December 3, 1965 was the UK release of Rubber Soul, a Beatles album that changed the face of rock and roll as the world knew it. ‘Plastic soul’ was a slang term used by Black American soul and blues artists to describe white musicians who tried to copy traditional soul music – Paul McCartney liked the joke about that term since they were admittedly playing their own version of R&B and soul-style music. John Lennon liked the simple pun on rubber sole footwear. Rubber soles are good insulators against electricity. The molecular structure of rubber does not allow electric charges to move freely. It resists electric current. Those wearing proper rubber footwear don’t get damaged by electrical current that they come into contact with. They are protected. In the same way, God provides us with insulation against Sin and iniquity. If we are properly equipped, they cannot move freely in us. We simply DO NOT SIN. So why is it that we DO seem to sin? That every day, we do something that is not based in trust in Jesus and therefore is sin (Romans 14:23)? The answer is that not everything we do is based in trust in Jesus. We do what WE say, not what HE says. That’s rebellion. That’s sin. We don’t have a sin nature. All sin is external to us. It’s on the outside seeking to come in. We do not HAVE to sin. But the ONLY way to avoid it is to keep our eyes firmly on God. To keep Him foremost in our minds and hearts. To trust Him in every situation. To listen to Him. To obey Him. He warns us throughout scripture that that is the way to success in our walk with Him. When we do it, we don’t sin. When we choose not to, we choose sin. It’s that simple. That is the battle. That is the struggle. That is the journey. Learning to trust in Him in every area, at every time, no matter what.
