“For the Lord gives wisdom; out of His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6, MEV). God loves us enough to give us wisdom and knowledge. God didn’t command Adam to keep from eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil to keep knowledge from him. What God didn’t desire Adam to know was evil. It was unnecessary. If you know good, then evil is anything that isn’t good. I know how to treat my children well. I don’t need to be schooled in all the ways children can be abused in order to know what abuse is. Abuse is everything that isn’t treating my children well. It’s the same principle. God wanted us to know Him and to know goodness and to know them so completely we would EASILY be able to identify evil and steer clear of it (1 Corinthians 14:20). God is a God of knowledge and He wants to share. He wants to share knowledge period, not just knowledge about Himself. It is a VERY good thing to ask God to share about Himself, to study the Word, to get into the nitty gritty of spiritual truth. It is a VERY good thing to ask God to explain things we see in the Word that we don’t understand – it’s one of the roles of Holy Spirit (John 14:26). But the Lord doesn’t stop there. He is looking to educate us in ALL ways. That means if we have a problem that we can’t figure out, He will guide us to the answer. Sometimes that means showing us where to learn it. Getting us the right teacher. Sometimes He’ll give us the answer Himself, teaching us what we need to know. If we will listen, He will talk to us. If we will listen, nothing will be kept from us. He’ll get us the knowledge we need – even getting us the knowledge we need to understand the knowledge we seek. It can be a process, but He is right there with us throughout it. He does not want unthinking slaves. He wants educated, wise, inquisitive, thinking, reasoning children who have CHOSEN to trust and believe Him. He is a God of knowledge and He isn’t stingy with it (James 1:5). Ask and receive.
