“In my distress I called on the Lord, and cried for help to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry for help came before Him to His ears” (Psalm 18:6, MEV). God loves us enough to be there for us in our crisis. We don’t have to go far. WE are His Temple now (1 Corinthians 3:16). All who believe in Jesus as Saviour, Jew and Gentile. We are His Temple. We are His dwelling. We are where He lives here on Earth. So when we have a crisis and when we call out to Him, that cry only needs to go as far as ourselves for God to hear us. He is right here. That is not in question. The question is this: are we crying out to HIM in our crisis? What or who are we turning to? Little children turn to their parents or their teacher, regardless of whether that trusted adult can actually solve the problem (or even if there is a problem to solve). They do it automatically and take the word of that person as truth. I remember years ago watching a friend’s young son running around as fast as he could. The child tripped and fell down. My friend immediately moved so that his son could see him and told the child he saw everything and that the child was okay. The boy didn’t cry or get upset. He took his father’s word for it, got up, and continued playing. We are the same way. We are like little children and when we fall, when he hit a crisis, we will take the word of whatever trusted person or thing we hold dear. Is it a calming substance? Is it binge-watching entertainment? Is it a parent, sibling, friend, spouse, or co-worker? Is it an idol? Is it a process like eating or spending money? Is it a pet? What do we turn to in crisis to get that feeling of it will be okay? Who are we listening to? Who are we trusting? God is with us. He is RIGHT THERE. He is available. We can listen to Him. We can turn to Him. He can be our strength. Our strong tower. Our fortress. Our salvation. He can provide us with the answer. He will walk with us through consequences. He will guide us. Show us where we have or will step wrong so that we can get back on the correct path. He is a GREAT Father and comforter. But are we turning to Him? I heard a statement the other day: Where we go in our crisis is where our Christ is. That is a true statement. What we turn to when we are in trouble is what we trust in our hearts. It SHOULD be God. It SHOULD be every time. Is He who you turn to? Is He who you trust in? He is right there and ready to help us. He isn’t going anywhere. Give Him His rightful place. Trust in Him. Believe Him. Turn to Him every time. You’ll never regret it.
