“Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, therefore, being exhausted from His journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour” (John 4:6, MEV). Jesus loved us enough to do the work the Father gave Him – even when His body didn’t want to. Yes, that’s right. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak, right? Jesus said that in Matthew 26:41 because He knew what He was talking about. When Jesus went through Samaria, He was exhausted. He couldn’t even make it into town, but collapsed at a well. The disciples went into town to get food, but Jesus was spent. Yet when a woman who needed salvation came by, Jesus acted. He didn’t use His exhaustion as an excuse. He didn’t give in to the laziness of His body. He put that aside, left His comfort zone, sacrificed rest, and did what the Father was telling Him to do. He was obedient, even when it cost Him something. That is how Jesus lived. That is the example He gives us. God isn’t into suffering for suffering’s sake. But sometimes we have to go where we aren’t comfortable, give when it costs us something, and do what we would rather not because it is the right thing to do. This is the example Jesus left for us. It’s not about us being penniless roaming the country preaching and teaching. It’s about obedience. It’s about doing the godly thing because it’s the godly thing, instead of weighing whether or not we will obey based on how much it might cost us. Jesus did what He was asked to do. Every time. This is our example. This is why He gives us His strength, His trust, and His fruit. This is why we have Holy Spirit living inside us. This is why we get correction, teaching, and guidance 24/7 if we’ll listen to Him. This is why we can worship Him any time we choose to. When we are rooted in Him, we have everything we need to succeed. Everything we need to choose to obey. Everything we need to weather whatever is heading our way. Jesus IS the answer because through Him, we get abundant life. Not a life of ease. Not a life of possessions. Not a life of accolades. A life of obedience that feeds our JOY, SATISFACTION, and RELATIONSHIP with God. No better way to live. And we live it in and through Jesus. It isn’t about comfort, it’s about loving Him enough to obey.
