Nested in Him: Ezekiel 29-31, 1 Timothy 5

(All scripture from the World English Bible, ebible.org, all rights reserved)

“Ethiopia, Put, Lud, all the mixed people, Cub, and the children of the land that is allied with them, will fall with them by the sword.”

“‘Yahweh says:

“They also who uphold Egypt will fall.
The pride of her power will come down.
They will fall by the sword in it from the tower of Seveneh,”
says the Lord Yahweh.
“They will be desolate in the middle of the countries that are desolate.
Her cities will be among the cities that are wasted.
They will know that I am Yahweh
when I have set a fire in Egypt,
and all her helpers are destroyed.

“‘“In that day messengers will go out from before me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid. There will be anguish on them, as in the day of Egypt; for, behold, it comes.””
(Ezekiel 30:5-9)

“Honor widows who are widows indeed. But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety toward their own family and to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God. Now she who is a widow indeed and desolate, has her hope set on God and continues in petitions and prayers night and day. But she who gives herself to pleasure is dead while she lives. Also command these things, that they may be without reproach. But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
(1 Timothy 5:3-8)

Humanity does not exist in a vacuum. Those who stick together for evil will be punished together. One group won’t be able to stand aside safe and sound while another gets judged. Then people work together to oppress and torment, they will also stand together when the time comes to pay for their crimes. It might happen simultaneously or one at a time, but the Just Lord God Almighty will not forget their involvement. It might not happen the way we THINK it is going to happen. But it happens. Stick together for ill, stuck together for judgment.

Humanity does not exist in a vacuum. We are meant to help each other. To bless each other. To come to the aid of one another. We’re meant to uphold each other. Making sure that those who really need our help get it. Making sure we’re not neglecting our own families. Making sure we’re reaching out to those who have no one. God’s heart is for helping, for community, for generousity and charity. We are doing wrong when we ignore them. Or when we tell ourselves someone else is taking care of it. When we hoard and pull back our hand from doing good. We are to assist one another, and get assistance in our own time. We stick together in all circumstances and we’re able to keep each other from falling (or staying down if we do fall – Ecclesiastes 4:9-11).

Summary

We have a choice. Are we going to be lazy and selfish or are we going to be active and blessers? It doesn’t take a lot to make a huge difference in someone’s life. The smallest gestures that take so little effort on our part, touch people in ways that they’ll never forget. We never really know what impact our kind words and gestures really mean to someone. But God knows. And God leads us to reach out to one another. We can rebel and side with the enemy. We can be selfish and look down on those around us. Nothing good comes from that. We can obey and listen to the Lord. Follow His promptings and do the little things. Reach out in the ways He suggests. If we do, we WILL help Him touch other people. We WILL be a witness. We WILL be doing right. But it’s our choice.
