Daily Affirmation #124

But I have something against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first” (Revelation 2:4, MEV). The Lord doesn’t dim. Unfortunately, we do. It doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when we stop pursuing Him. We are supposed to rest in Jesus (He IS the sabbath rest we need – Matthew 12:8). This is a GOOD thing (Matthew 11:28-30). But in our rest, we should pursue Him. We pursue our spouses from just meeting until they ARE our spouses. We don’t stop there. We continue to talk to them. To learn about them. To partner with them. To know them. It is a never-ending journey where we establish, maintain, and deepen our relationship with them. It works the SAME WAY with God. That’s why we become male-female couples in the first place (Genesis 2:24). It’s a type and shadow of our relationship with Him. Sadly, we often take that desperation to be saved and the gratitude and thankfulness of being saved and start to enter a routine with them. Earnest seeking becomes daily devotions and a quick prayer. The removal of all those things in our lives that aren’t contributing to our relationship with Him turns to a gradual permission slip process letting them creep back in. It is common to have our original ‘on fire’ turn into smoking embers. But He seeks that passion we once had. He treasures it. It pleases Him. To be loved in the same flavour that He loves us. To see the devotion to Him. It’s a lovely thing in His eyes. All it takes is a focus on Him. A choice to decide that His things are the best things. His mindset the best mindset. A choice to APPLY the Word to our lives, as written, as we come across it, every time. To put Him first. If we will do it in the easy times, that deep connection will give us strength and hold us up in the hard ones. Turning to Him in trouble is a fine thing, but establishing and developing relationship with Him BEFORE trouble is best practice. Turn back to Him like a bride whose veil is first being lifted. Engage with the Living One who provides us with all we need, all the time.
