“I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13, MEV). Jesus doesn’t want us mired in doubt. To waste our time and our intellectual capacity worrying or being anxious for our salvation. He wants us to KNOW that we KNOW that we KNOW that we have a relationship with the Most High God (John 17:3). God is KNOWABLE. God is knowable and He is a PERSON(S). He can and does communicate with us. He can and does love us. He can and does care about even the smallest details and tidbits about our lives. He can and does interact with us. We do NOT have to go through life wondering what will happen after we die. Wondering if there is something. Wondering if we just cease. Wondering what the meaning of it all is. No. Jesus made sure that we KNEW that it call comes down to believing in Him, in His Name, and THAT is the basis by which we come into a relationship with Yahweh God Almighty and THAT RELATIONSHIP is eternal life. That’s the deal. That’s the thing. That’s what we need. We don’t have to bang on the pearly gates. They are flung wide open and we have shining marquee arrows pointing us all the way up through and into the Throne Room to the very Throne of Grace itself (Hebrews 4:16). We can be CERTAIN. We don’t have to wait until it is too late. Who would want to do that? Go through life not knowing if you were going to be rewarded or punished? Not knowing until there was nothing you could do about it whether or not you made the grade? Jesus doesn’t want that for ANYONE. He did it so that we can walk in it. He paid the price and did everything for us so that we are measured by what HE did and not what WE did (2 Corinthians 5:21). He told us about it because He loves us. He assures us about it because He loves us. He doesn’t want us distracted by what ifs and what if I didn’ts. He wants us assured, confident, and at peace. That’s how strong His love is for us.
