Fear No Fear

““Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars,
    and stretches her wings toward the south?
Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up,
    and makes his nest on high?
On the cliff he dwells and makes his home,
    on the point of the cliff and the stronghold.
From there he spies out the prey.
    His eyes see it afar off.
His young ones also suck up blood.
    Where the slain are, there he is.””
(Job 39:26-30)

“Yahweh’s voice is on the waters.
    The God of glory thunders, even Yahweh on many waters.
Yahweh’s voice is powerful.
    Yahweh’s voice is full of majesty.
Yahweh’s voice breaks the cedars.
    Yes, Yahweh breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes them also to skip like a calf;
    Lebanon and Sirion like a young, wild ox.
Yahweh’s voice strikes with flashes of lightning.
   Yahweh’s voice shakes the wilderness.
    Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
Yahweh’s voice makes the deer calve,
    and strips the forests bare.
    In his temple everything says, “Glory!””
(Psalm 29:3-9)

God had a few simple questions for Job. Job had been firm in his own righteousness. In the idea that he deserved better treatment because of what he had done. So God simply began to ask him what exactly he had done. Had he done these things that from God’s point of view were very simple and basic. He asked whether or not Job was understanding the physical laws and processes that governed how the universe worked around him. More than understanding them, had he set them up? Had Job done ANY of this stuff? And if he hadn’t, why did he think that what he had done made him worthy of answers? Why should anyone bow to his thinking when he has – relatively speaking – done NOTHING worthwhile? God was putting their relationship into perspective.

The entirety of creation speaks to God’s glory. It is unavoidable. We have studied for thousands of years and are beginning to piece together how things work and why things are the way they are. We are even harnessing that knowledge and creating technology that takes advantage of that knowledge. And yet there is still so much we don’t understand. We are still discovering new aspects, new layers, new systems, new laws, and new all sorts of things. Yet God’s VOICE makes these things into existence. He needs no technology. He needs no sweat of His brow. He doesn’t need to work at it and expend incredible effort and struggle along to make it come about. God is so great He simply SPEAKS and reality occurs. All of creation points back to a creator. To a designer. To a mind that made things to run how they run, operate how they operate, and look how they look. And He did it all by His VOICE. How great is He? How mighty? Yet He gets close, slips our hand in His, and asks how we are. It is staggering that He loves us. It is flabbergasting that He wants to spend time with us. It is beyond reason that He lifts us up to Him in Jesus and sits us where He sits. What a GREAT God!

Summary

God’s righteousness and majesty need to NEVER be forgotten. He owes us NOTHING. He is so incredible we have trouble even wrapping our minds around His existence. He is GOD. Without Jesus, we would NEVER be able to approach Him. Without Him, we would be hiding away and hoping we weren’t noticed. That’s how far above us He is. But He seeks us out. He talks to us. He made a Way for us to be able to approach Him. He guides us along that Way. He teaches us. He instructs us. He educates us. He renews us. He blesses us. He does so much for us. And He does it because He LOVES us. The God of creation. The Almighty God Most High. HE loves YOU. He wants to spend time with you. He sees YOU as a treasure. Never forget who He is. Never forget what He is. And thank Him every day for His love for you.
