Fear No Fear

“Moreover Yahweh answered Job,
“Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty?
    He who argues with God, let him answer it.”
Then Job answered Yahweh,
“Behold, I am of small account. What will I answer you?
    I lay my hand on my mouth.
I have spoken once, and I will not answer;
    Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.””
(Job 40:1-5)

“Blessed be Yahweh,
    because he has heard the voice of my petitions.
Yahweh is my strength and my shield.
    My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped.
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices.
    With my song I will thank him.
Yahweh is their strength.
    He is a stronghold of salvation to his anointed.
Save your people,
    and bless your inheritance.
Be their shepherd also,
    and bear them up forever.”
(Psalm 28:6-9)

Job wanted to be able to approach God. Job wanted to talk to God and have God respond to Him. Job wanted to be able to justify himself to God. But when God came, when God answered, when God presented Himself to Job, Job had a VERY different reaction to the one he had imagined. Instead of being puffed up. Instead of laying out all the reasons why he was right and righteous. Instead of ANY of that, Job shut his mouth, put his hand over his mouth, and acknowledged that God was God and he was in no way putting himself first. Job humbled himself.

God answers us. God responds to us. He hears His obedient children and He answers. It is not always what we WANT to hear. But He does it. He has saved us. He continues to save us. He is MORE THAN ENOUGH for anything that comes upon us. But we need to acknowledge He is God. That His Way is THE Way. That the same thing that makes Him able to save and restore us should make us bow our knees and worship Him. God is GREAT and worthy of our praise.

Summary

Everyone who rejects God imagines themselves thumbing their nose at Him. They imagine themselves reigning in Hell as kings. They imagine all sorts of power and wealth and success and pleasures. But when confronted with the actual reality of who God IS, no one and nothing can stand. Everything bows. Everything acknowledges Him for who He IS. If someone or something hasn’t done that yet, it is because in His mercy He hasn’t faced them yet. Eventually every knee will bow. Every mouth will confess the truth. God IS God. Period. Are you going to go to your knees kicking and screaming? Or are you going to go to your knees in love and worship? Is God going to be GOD ALMIGHTY or is He going to be God Almighty, Lord, Saviour, and Father? Are you going to be in a relationship or in chains?
