“not that we are sufficient in ourselves to take credit for anything of ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,” (2 Corinthians 3:5, MEV). God loves us enough to start working when we reach the end of our rope. When we stop, He can start. Success, true and total success, is beyond us. We can accomplish some amazing things. Look at what humanity has done. Look at our inventions. Look at our engineering. Our technology. What we have discovered about our world, our universe, and ourselves. We are pretty cool. But also look at all the things we haven’t managed to do. Not big, explory, techno, tremendous things. Look at basic things. Homelessness. Poverty. Child trafficking. Addiction. We throw hundreds of thousands of dollars at these things on a daily basis and we have not solved them. Human suffering continues. As a species we can imagine a future without all that (Star Trek, for example), but we are no closer to achieving it than our distant ancestors were. We, as a species, just can’t do it. God, however, is not limited. God can do it. God has a Way. God has a plan. God has solutions. Individual and national. Even global. When HE becomes our source and the One whom we trust to guide us, amazing things happen. That is when the impossible becomes possible. When we work with Him instead of trying to do it ourselves (Luke 1:37). We need to see our limits and put ourselves aside. We need to acknowledge who God is and what God can do. We need to see that He is where it all begins and ends. We need to trust in Him. That is where our lives turn around. That is when things begin to work out supernaturally. That is when answers appear. When we believe what He says and trust in Him. When we stop thinking that we have the solution or even that we HAVE to have the solution. When we start turning to Him. We can have opinions. We can have ideas. Then we check in with Him and find out what HE wants us to do. We can have good ideas, but what really works are God ideas.
