Nested in Him: Lamentations 3, Psalm 140

(All scripture from the World English Bible, ebible.org, all rights reserved)

“It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed,
because his mercies don’t fail.
They are new every morning.
Great is your faithfulness.
“Yahweh is my portion,” says my soul.
“Therefore I will hope in him.”
Yahweh is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
It is good that a man should hope
and quietly wait for the salvation of Yahweh.
It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.”

(Lamentations 3:22-27)

“I said to Yahweh, “You are my God.”
Listen to the cry of my petitions, Yahweh.
Yahweh, the Lord, the strength of my salvation,
you have covered my head in the day of battle.
Yahweh, don’t grant the desires of the wicked.
Don’t let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud.”

(Psalm 140:6-8)

There are times when things will happen that we do not want. God warned us about them in His Word. Jesus warned us about them when He was here. There will be earth-shaking things that occur. There will be local things that occur. Things are going to get dicey. They are going to be shocking and beyond our ability to predict. No matter what humanity does, prepares for, or anticipates, there will be some stuff going down. But God has also said some other things. God has said He is in control God has said that it won’t last forever. God has said He has a heart for His children and will protect His obedient ones. God has given us authority in Jesus to command things to happen and be that He has said should happen and be. He isn’t shy about providing us protection and He is truthful that those who seek Him, rely on Him, and look to Him will receive it. In HIM we will be secure. In HIM we will be protected. In HIM we will be able to ride out anything that comes our way. If we do what HE says, when HE says, and how HE says, we will be fine. His mercy, His kindness, His loving patience, and His strength is why we have what we have. Why we get what we get. We need to rely on Him. When we do, even when the world looks like it is ending, we have salvation and protection.

It tells us in the Word that God is the same all the time. He is consistent. He is constant. He doesn’t change His mind on a whim. He won’t suddenly withhold from us. He won’t forget our conversations. When we think we are alone and abandoned and at the mercy of what’s going on, we need to remind ourselves we cried out to God. We came to Him. He won’t forget. He won’t walk away. He will be right there for us. His hand surrounding us. Protecting us. When we rely on Him, we can build up our trust by remembering His constancy. By remembering His daily renewal of mercy toward us. By remembering His love for us. He won’t let enemies lord it over us. He won’t let the wicked go unpunished. And when recompense comes for the wicked, we will be above it. With God. Watching it, but not effected by it. Seeing it, but not panicking. Observing, but in no way participating. Because He is our God. Because He is Good. Because we have relied on Him for our stability, our strength, and our guidance. He is a loving and protecting Father. Lean into that.

Summary

Malachi 3:16 says “Then those who feared Yahweh spoke one with another; and Yahweh listened and heard, and a book of memory was written before him for those who feared Yahweh and who honored his name.” When we revere and honour the Lord, looking to Him as our Source, God honours that. God remembers that. If God is who He says He is, and is capable of what He says He is capable of, then what do we have to worry about? He can protect us. He can keep us secure. Our destination is set. Our hope is in Him. We can eagerly expect all that He has promised us because He is faithful, truthful, good, and merciful. We can REST, knowing that our efforts, ideas, and plans won’t get us through but HIS will. We can trust in Him. Listen to Holy Spirit. He won’t steer you wrong. Build up your trust in Him. Read the Word. Rely on Him. Believe what you read. Take it before your eyes every single day. He writes it all down. He remembers us. He won’t leave us. He will protect us. Lean into Him. Rely on Him. Trust Him. Believe Him. Look to Him for guidance every day. You will never regret it. Ever.
